Easter Saturday

We started out the day decorating Easter eggs. We used tea bags and berries and turmeric for egg dye. Gabriela kept dropping her eggs in the bowl forcefully and trying to crack them like when we bake. There were a few casualties. I forgot to take pictures of her first egg decorating ever. boo.

We decided that in order to get the kids to eat anything remotely healthy before their Easter egg hunt, we should have a tea party lunch. So here they are, waiting for things to get started.

On the menu: yogurt and fruit parfaits, dried fruit, apple slices, string cheese rolled in lunch meat, peanut butter and banana roll ups, and of course, tea.

Then it was time for the Easter egg hunt to begin. Andrew and Gabriela were thrilled!
Andrew finding some eggs in the flowers
Gabriela hasn't really perfected her technique yet. She couldn't wait to see what was inside, and would open each egg after finding it to peek inside, and possibly have a little snack (while Andrew kept filling his bag).
 See what I mean?!?  Thrilled!
 Whoopsies
Caught in the act. Lane found some eggs and taste tested the contents.
It was for the safety of the children, people.
He also hid a couple eggs in this real birds' nest.

 Cousins
 Andrew is extremely camera shy
Gabriela tried to trick me after we went back inside. She asked me when we were going to have our egg hunt. Did she think she could get two egg hunts out of me?!? When I told her we just had one, she acted defeated and said, "Oh yeah, I remember." shucks.

Gabriela Says...

On eating sprouts:
"Mommy, these smell just like tractor"
or like the freshly cut grass she smells while she's on the tractor.
It took me a few moments to figure that one out.

"Girls talk a lot"
Gabriela learned this one from Wendy in Peter Pan.

On fashion:
"Mommy, those underwear don't look good on you"
Great. Two years old and she is already critiquing my wardrobe.
When I asked why, she informed me that my bottom was sticking out.

More on fashion:
Me: Today is a school day, Gabriela
Gabriela: I think I should look pretty like a ballerina

On staying healthy:
"Smoke is not good for your body.
My mommy told me that when we watch Peter Pan"

On melting my heart:
out of nowhere - "Mommy, I love you forever and ever in my heart"

"I love you, Mama.I love when you give me hugs, I love when you read me books, I love when you cook with me, and I love when we use the blender to make smoothies."

On dinnertime conversation:
"How was your day at work, Daddy?
What did you do there?
Did you got money for our house?
"

On going out to play:
Daddy: Mommy wants to know when we're coming home.
Gabriela: I don't want to leave until after Christmas!

On growing up:
"Mommy, don't just call me 'Honey' anymore because I'm the big sister"

Week in Gilroy

Gabriela and I spent last week away from Daddy to help my sister out with watching Andrew in Gilroy.
While we missed Daddy very much, we did have a great week of cousin fun.

The weather was amazing, which meant we spent lots of time outside having picnic lunches in the vineyard, playing Red Light, Green Light, playing on the playground, and just exploring outside.  Andrew taught Gabriela how to play I Spy too.  She still needs a little practice... "I spy, with my little eye, something that is brown. ABBIE!" But she was a good little guesser.

We had a really fancy tea party with Andrew, his BFF Skyler, and Mina and Caetlin.  We went to story time at the library. One night we even had cupcakes for dinner.  The cupcake part was meatloaf and the frosting was mashed potatoes. We put candles in the cupcakes and sang the Unbirthday Song for extra fun. We visited Grandpa. We also watched The Sound of Music.  Gabriela sings "ode-ley-dee-odelay" now and "So Long, Farewell" all day long now, and asks me to tell her the story when Liesl picks up her baby sister from the steps.

Gabriela has overcome her tractor fear.  Usually, she will beg me to hold her the instant she hears any sound that resembles a tractor sound.  But on Friday when she heard Papa's tractor, she asked to go out and find him, walked right up to him, and asked for a ride. They rode together for quite a while, with Gabriela steering the whole time, until she was ready for a break.

We also had a goodbye dinner for Uncle Matthew because he moved away on Saturday.  We are going to miss helping Uncle Matthew find his hugs, and playing catch with Uncle Matthew.

We had a lot of fun over the week, despite the medicine eating incident of 2011.  Gabriela and Andrew disappeared from my sight for maybe 2 minutes.  When I went in the room to see what they were up to, Andrew hid under the bed and Gabriela announced happily that they were sharing medicine.  And then I found the empty bottle. Thank goodness it was homeopathic sniffle medicine. I wasn't worried about them having reactions to the medication, but still!!!  Kids aren't supposed to help themselves to medicine! I was so stressed out and upset. We had a long talk about how you only take medicine if your mom or dad gives it to you.

Gabriela also got to play with Mina and Caetlin, which she was really excited about.  Gabriela was Mama Gabriela and Mina said she was Baby Rapunzel. Gabriela called her Baby Rapencil. The girls played so nicely together. But once, Gabriela yelled at Mina, who then burst into tears.
Me: What happened?
Gabriela: I just got mad at Mina so I yelled at her.
Me: Look, Mina is so sad that you yelled. That's not a nice way to talk to your cousin.
Mina: Gabriela, next time can you please talk nicely to me?
Gabriela: Okay, Mina, I'm sorry I yelled. I won't yell at you any more.

They give each other a giant hug and walk away holding hands.  As they walk into the other room, Mina says, "Now, what were you trying to tell me?"

I mean, really. Could they be any sweeter?

I wish I had tons of pictures to share with you, but I don't.  I might have a video or two to upload.
It was a busy week!

Week 8

We haven't started taking weekly belly pictures yet, since our camera is still broken.  But I seriously got an instabelly.  There was no way I could continue hiding the baby bump any longer. I thought for sure Meliss knew what was up.  I've been sleeping much more, peeing more, constantly snacking, and I feel like my stomach has a giant pregnant sign on it. So, we broke the news to Nate and Meliss last night. They were so excited. Nate couldn't stop dancing around, he was so thrilled for us.  And Meliss was screaming and hugging me. So sweet.

I got all teary eyed when I told Gabriela there really is a baby growing in my tummy.  There's always at least one baby growing in her tummy. Gabriela looked at me with giant bright eyes, her mouth wide open in awe.  She flashed us a sweet smile and asked if she could touch the baby.  She, ever so gently, opened her hand and placed it on my belly, still smiling in amazement.  When we asked her what she thought about being a big sister, she immediately belted, "GOOD!"
