Weekend with Grandma Chaney

Grandma Chaney was released from the hospital. She has lived a very full 95 years, and it doesn't look like her body will be recovering this time. Lane's mom had her transported down to Gilroy where she can spend time with her beautiful family. So we all headed down this weekend to be with Grandma Chaney and with each other.

Gabriela was really upset about the coming weekend, asking how it could possibly be good if it might be the last time she sees her great grandma. It was a good chance to explain how we can find happiness and tender moments in even sad circumstances. We reminded her of how much joy grandma got seeing Gabriela a few weeks ago, how lucky we all are to have had as much time with her as we have.

Grandma was alert, sitting up, eating, smiling, and talking. All things we didn't see her do a few weeks ago. It was good for Gabriela to see her acting more like herself.

Grandma is happy she gets to watch the Giants games now. She is surrounded by her family, and eating healthy, tasty, non-hospital food.

I brought some coffee cake I baked the day before, and apparently, grandma adored it. After taking a bite, she said she'd waited six weeks to eat something like that. I am happy that my baking was just what she needed.

At one point, Grandma was trying to make sure I had eaten and askingn me if I wanted anything to eat. Always taking care of others, this sweet lady.

Great grandchildren playing card games that Grandma Chaney taught them to play as she watches.

There was lots of hand holding and visiting with Grandma, Grandma crafts, some mama time, brother time, and lots and lots of cousin time.

Saturday was Fourth of July. The kids were kind of bummed to miss the plans they originally made, but their uncles delivered, quite possibly, the most exciting Fourth of July to date, with all the Grover cousins together.

I mean, doesn't this say it all?!?

auntie Liss and Uncle Noal
Easton wasn't sure he liked sparklers.

Grandpa loaded up the back of his truck with blankets and pillows and all the cousins snuggled up together after finishing up the sparkler fun. They were surprised to find the aunties supplied them with firework watching candy and glo-sticks.

The uncles set up a ladder and later moved that bench in front of the ladder so there would be multiple levels of fireworks set off simultaneously. They all worked together planning who would light which ones and carefully timed it, high-fiving each other for a job well done. It was almost as entertaining to watch the brothers as it was to watch the fireworks! The kids were thoroughly entertained.

And in the background, some neighbors were setting off truly giant, surely illegal fireworks that were quite impressive.

It ended up being a holiday toremember with Grover cousins, lots of family time, fireworks, Fourth of July crafts. And I even snuck away with the ladies for a pedicure.
My sweet traveling children, who adore staying at hotels even took care of our bags for us. What service!
It wa surely a memorable holiday weekend with lots of tender sweet memories and also lots of fun.
