Our Sicky and Our Weekend

We weren't sure how much fun we'd be able to have this weekend since I was home with sicky Gabriela on Thursday AND Friday. She was starting to feel poorly around Halloween. But it just kept getting worse. We spent four hours at the pediatrician on Thursday. After checking her temp, her ears, listening to her lungs, and checking her throat, the doctor confirmed that Gabriela just had a nasty cold. Luckily we went because she was also able to get her H1N1 vaccination which had just arrived. I knew Gabriela was not her normal self when she just lay happily in my arms for the first hour and a half of our wait. All day she was clingy and easily upset by things that normally wouldn't have bothered her. Gabriela is usually so independent, she will just sit and read books or play with her kitchen or little house, but she wanted me to hold her all day. She also took a three hour nap. I swear, this week we have single handedly kept Kleenex in business. Thank goodness we saw a noticeable improvement on Friday so we were able to have some weekend fun.

We took a trip to Old Navy since they were having a giant sale - 50% off of outerwear! And, if you use your Old Navy or BR card, you get an extra 30% off! I bought Gabriela a coat for $12. It was such a steal I also bought one for next year. Okay, so this wasn't so much fun for Gabriela, but I had a blast. We went to Petco after our Old Navy shopping bonanza. The local rescue shelter was having a doggy adoption event, so there were tons of puppies of all ages outside. Gabriela was practically in heaven. She barked at all the dogs, got to pet some of them and see some puppies up close. We were there forever. We also went inside and watched all the fish, saw the kitties and birds, and even some ugly rodents like the naked rat with huge balls. yuck. We hit up our favorite, Kabob Palace for dinner.

I was so delighted to get some extra rest on Sunday. Lane cooked banana buttermilk pancakes, eggs, and smoothies. We couldn't believe it was going to be 70 degrees and got outside as soon as we could. We went to the national mall and just walked around. We went to the water and watched the ducks and geese, which Gabriela loved. We saw lots of airplanes, did somersaults, chased each other, and kicked a ball around, and then made our way to the carousel and took a little ride. Gabriela thought it was pretty fancy to sit on a horse. She had so much fun, she passed out on the way home.
