Fun Times

Our weekend started off with a little trip down to Jaleo. We love to catch the Colombian brothers play their flamenco tunes there on Friday nights. This time it was only one of the brothers with a percussion guy. He came up to us afterwards to congratulate us on Baby Grover and we found out he and his wife are having a baby in June. He also gave us their new CD as a gift and told us to play it for the baby. So sweet. And kind of funny because a girl had *just* finished paying for her CD. We have somehow charmed them into giving us both of their CDs for free

We lazed around on Saturday and had a delicious breakfast of sautéed spinach, mushrooms, garlic, and grape tomatoes with eggs and toast. Lane made his signature smoothies. After this tasty breakfast, we ventured off on a multi hour tour of the area’s grocery stores in preparation for our visitors arriving later this week.

Sunday was delightful because we got to see Malia!! After more than TWO years, her moving to Hawaii and us to the East Coast, we have finally gotten back together. She and her friend Sarah came over for a brunch. We made them banana coconut muffins with berries, garlic and rosemary roasted potatoes, prosciutto wrapped roasted asparagus (Lane’s idea!), fresh strawberries, and of course, Lane’s super smoothies.

After feasting, we decided to head over to the National Portrait Gallery where we saw the presidential portraits, some interesting contemporary art, and our most noteworthy sighting – Stephen Colbert’s portrait. It is placed right above the drinking fountains and in between the men’s and women’s restrooms. It’s only there until April 1st, so it’s a good thing we went!

Before departing the city, we stopped at Matchbox in Gallery Place for some delicious pizza dinners and decadent desserts. I am excited to go back and try their mini burgers.

Malia will be back in just two weeks, since she’s on a work assignment in Baltimore for the next 4 months. We are looking forward to many opportunities to visit with her over that time.

First picture of Lane and me together with my noticeably pregnant belly, and what do I do? Cover it up with a sweater! What was I thinking?!?
